Audacious clients lead to great projects… A couple living in a condominium in Toronto, not thrilled with their view contacted Muscat.Freeman to see if we could devise a glass piece that would transform their kitchen window – no problem! As part of the collaborative process with clients, we often ask for words that will lead us if there is not a definite visual idea: ‘explosion’ was one for the words and we ran with that one.
Glass is the speciality of my colleague Francis Muscat, and we thought of a piece that would have layers of colour and texture, held in a wooden frame, to be suspended within the window frame. We wanted the shapes we chose to reference the landscape out of the window, as well as disguise it. The structure grew in complexity as we added layers and wanted to slip in just one more colour… and the whole piece slid into the van with an inch to spare, but all the logistical wrangling was worthwhile – ‘Kitchen Explosion’ now graces the room and our clients are delighted.
